Activity 3 – Attacking Tactics – Guess the Tactic

Attacking Tactics to be discussed with the class:

  • Speed and Agility: Encourage players to be quick on their feet and agile when moving around the court. The faster they move, the harder it is for the opponents to hit them.
  • Targeted Throws: Encourage the children to communicate and aim for specific opponents who may be more vulnerable or less skilled at dodgeball. This tactic can help eliminate opponents strategically and reduce the number of players on the opposing team.
  • Team throws: Encourage players to work together by coordinating their throws. They can throw the ball simultaneously or in quick succession to overwhelm opponents and make it harder for them to dodge.
  • Fake Throws: teach players to fake a throw to one side and quickly switch to the other side. This can catch opponents off guard and create openings for successful throws.
  • Throw-and-Catch: emphasize the importance of catching the ball after a successful throw. If a player catches a ball thrown by an opponent, the opponent is eliminated and the throwing player’s teammate can re-join the game. Encourage players to communicate and coordinate their throws and catches.
  • Do the children know any other attacking tactics?
    Game Situation
  • Once you have discussed all the attacking tactics above, split the children into equa teams with six players in each teams.
  • Give each team a coloured bib so children can identify their team.
  • The team is to communicate and select one tactic and attempt to implement it in a game situation. DON’T TELL THE OTHER TEAM WHAT THE TACTIC IS!
  • Play a game against another team using the dodgeball rules form lesson 1.
  •  Children in other teams that are not playing are to attempt to guess the teams attacking tactic.
  • After the game, coach/teach calls both teams in and children attempt to guess what tactic the team tried to implement.
